this property had the bones: a classic flat roof ranch embracing the pool with its unique u shaped layout and raised pool area. all it needed was a little nudge to create a private gated oasis with a nod to mid century design.
i started with the front yard, i wanted the home to be more private, previously the front yard was a dried wasteland of unused space and unfortunate single pane insulated curtain covered windows.
i imagined a secret desert garden in a gated courtyard that could be enjoyed year round with a fire pit and butterfly chairs. the triangle patterned shadow block is a classic mid century element that i wanted to incorporate for texture and to utilize the local manufacture that first made it famous back in the day...
the covered lanai with its denim blue painted floors and silent ceiling fan is my favorite outdoor office.
i created a cactus feature wall and a fun collection of rattan mirrors as a backdrop for evening dinner parties that can seat up to ten people.
